Nutritional Supplements for PCOS

(for Canadian residents only)

10% Discount on Orders Over $100

There is an increasing body of evidence that selected nutritional supplements may help you alleviate the symptoms of PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and possibly reduce the incidence of ovarian cysts. Not all of them are appropriate or necessary for every woman. We recommend that you consult with a licensed healthcare professional regarding the best supplements for you.

Shown below are selected supplements that some health practitioners use for treating various aspects of PCOS.

NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) may be useful for insulin resistance, reducing homocysteine levels, and improving fertility of Clomid-resistant women.  NAC is also a powerful antioxidant and is a component of your detoxification system. Vitex 750 (chaste tree berry) contains a high dose standardized vitex extract and is fortified with vitex essential oil for improved clinical effect. Vitex is helpful for ovulation or infertility issues.  Many women with PCOS have a progesterone deficiency.  Vitex aids greater production of progesterone.  It may also help with acne.

Carnitine is often called an amino acid but it is actually a vitamin-like nutrient, related in structure to the B vitamins. It plays an essential role in transporting fats into the muscles for energy production. For this reason, it is often referred to as a "fat burning" nutrient.  New research shows it also aids hair growth. Saw palmetto, pygeum and nettle root help to reduce the effects testosterone on your body, such as hirsutism (excessive male pattern hair growth), male pattern hair loss, and acne.  Women with PCOS frequently have excessively high levels of testosterone.  Pygeum also is reported to reduce excessive luteinizing hormone (LH) and prolactin levels, which are problems for PCOS women.
